Ezhimala

The Ezhimala hill, at a height of 286 meters, is one of Kannur's most visually pleasing tourist attractions. Ezhimala is a seven-peaked mountain, about 45 km from Kannur airport and 7 Kms from Payyannur.

Ezhimala, a historically significant site, has a fascinating history dating back to the Sangha period. It was the Ezhimala kings' and afterward the Mooshika kings' headquarters. In the 11th century, it saw warfare between the Chola and Chera dynasties. Burial chambers, carved stone pillars, caves, and granite platforms are among the artifacts of the distant past found in the foothills. Because it is believed that Lord Buddha visited Ezhimala, Buddhists regard the location as sacred. From Ezhimala, you may see the Mount Dilli lighthouse, the ruins of an old fort nearby, and a shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Naval Academy Ezhimala (NAVAC), one of Asia's largest naval academies, is located here. Prior permission is required to visit the Naval Academy. The Ezhimala hills is situated at a distance of 13.5 km from Skanda Residency.
